Capybara Discovery Week at Hobbledown

Capybara Discovery Week

Families are set for an unforgettable May half-term as Hobbledown in Epsom, Surrey, unveils their brand-new Capybara Discovery Week, a joyful celebration dedicated to one of the world’s most-loved and talked-about animals.

Running from 23rd to 31st May 2026, the special event will transform the attraction into a capybara-filled adventure, bringing together themed activities, interactive experiences and all-day family entertainment.

From spotting a five-month-old baby capybara, Spud, families can expect a full day packed with animals, imagination, exploration and outdoor fun. Designed to be both fun and educational, Capybara Discovery Week will also give families the chance to learn more about these fascinating animals through expert keeper talks, interactive experiences and hands-on activities throughout the day.

Discover the capybaras everyone is talking about

At Hobbledown in Epsom, visitors will have the chance to see baby capybara Spud, who was born in December 2025 and has already become a huge hit with guests. Spud lives alongside the attraction’s resident capybara family, mum Puffin and dad Robin, inside a lively habitat shared with the mara family. Earlier this spring, the maras welcomed a new baby of their own, with the young mara and baby Spud quickly becoming best friends and delighting visitors daily.

Guests can also discover Hobbledown Epsom’s additional pair of male capybaras, Taquito and Churro, who are well known for their laid-back personalities and close bond. Families visiting both Hobbledown Epsom will be able to learn fascinating capybara facts, discover what makes the animals so unique and hear directly from the expert animal keepers who care for them every day.

A full day of capybara-themed adventure

Capybara Discovery Week has been designed as a complete family day out, with themed activities woven throughout everything visitors already love about the Hobbledown location. Children can set off on the Capybara Adventure Quest, solve clues hidden along the treasure trail, dance beneath flurries of bubbles at the Capybara Bubble Disco and gather for capybara-themed storytelling sessions with the Hobblers.

Families can also step inside the immersive animal walkthroughs, come face to face with birds of prey, explore indoor play barns and climb through the giant outdoor adventure villages, all included within admission at both attractions.

With activities taking place throughout the day and both indoor and outdoor attractions to enjoy, both Hobbledown Epsom and Hobbledown Heath offer an all-weather family day out during the May half-term break.

Don’t miss the marble runs

Guests visiting Hobbledown attraction can also experience the recently introduced marble runs, which have already become a favourite with families. The handcrafted wooden marble tracks can be found across the park, encouraging children and parents alike to race marbles, experiment with different routes and explore the attractions together in a completely new way. Souvenir marbles can be purchased for £3, while every child visiting with an Ultimate Family Ticket receives a marble included with their visit.

Why capybaras have taken over the internet

Native to South America, capybaras are the world’s largest rodents and are famous for their calm, gentle and incredibly social nature. The semi-aquatic animals love swimming, relaxing in groups and forming unlikely friendships with other species, making capybaras one of social media’s most adored animals in recent years.

Their curious personalities and peaceful nature have helped them win fans across the world, with families travelling to Hobbledown to see the much-loved animals for themselves. Hobbledown is excited to bring Capybara Discovery Week to visitors this May half-term. Families absolutely adore capybaras, and this event gives visitors the chance to learn more about these amazing animals while enjoying a full day of adventure, play and unforgettable experiences together.
