WHAT IS THE REGENCY?

It’s the historical period from 1811 to 1820 when George, Prince of Wales, governed the country as ‘Regent’ in place of his father George III and mother Queen Charlotte. It’s the era of authors Jane Austen and Mary Shelly; of poet Lord Byron and violinist-composer George Bridgetower.

DANCING AT THE HORTON REGENCY BALL:

Guests do not need to come with a partner. Dances can be enjoyed in mixed gender groups and are suitable for all ages. Full instruction will be given by a professional Regency dance caller from Mrs Bennet’s Ballroom.

DRESS CODE:

There are no rules, but guests are encouraged wear an outfit that makes them feel fabulous… think tiaras and feathers, ball gowns, glittering jewellery, frock coats, waistcoats and cravats. TV series Bridgerton has a contemporary glamorous take on period style and can be re-created with high street fashion items or vintage stores but if you’re looking for an authentic Regency costume there are a few places to check out locally. Remember to read the terms and conditions of hire. The Horton cannot deal with any queries relating to costume hire.
